My Weekend at the Montage Palmetto Bluff
This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend a media weekend at the Montage Palmetto Bluff and to say I was blown away would be the understatement of the year. I will go ahead and say I had never even heard of Palmetto Bluff prior to my invitation but upon arrival I knew it was something truly special. The Montage Palmetto Bluff is situated basically in between Savannah and Hilton Head Island. It's about a 20 to 30 minute drive to either location. Honestly though, there's not any need to every leave this magical place once you arrive. One of the greatest things about Palmetto Bluff is that it's such a short drive from Atlanta, about 4 and 1/2 hours to be exact.
It's the perfect little weekend getaway.
We arrived on a Thursday and had a jam packed schedule while we were there. The Montage team wanted us to be able to experience all of the great activities they offer and we got to do just that. Up first we got to meet Jay, the friendliest wild-life know it all to ever walk the face of this earth. He loaded us into the back of his pickup truck and off we went to learn about all things nature and animals around the 20,000 acre property. He's done so much to keep the property in it's natural state and also made so many great improvements to help the wildlife on the property thrive. He's currently gearing up to have owls on the property and we got to see where they will live once we are there. We saw a baby alligator, more birds than I could ever name and he even told us there are wild boars on the land there. One thing I noticed about every employee at Montage Palmetto Bluff was just how passionate they were about their jobs. It was so great to see people who genuinely loved their jobs and you could tell that by just how excited they were to talk about it. Jay is wonderful at what he does at MPB and he was so much fun.
Thursday night we had dinner at Cole's which one of eight restaurants located on the property. We had dinner family style and enjoyed everything from fried chicken to banana pudding, which were both out of this world. I didn't have a bad meal the entire time I was there to be honest. Everything was phenomenal. Cole's is attached to the bowling alley so once we finished dinner we walked a whole 5 feet over to bowl. Then entire time I was there I kept thinking about how much my kids would love it there. I'll definitely be returning with them in the very near future.
Friday was an early morning because we went to kayak and see the sunrise. I think we were all dreading the 5am wakeup, except for me.....of course, ha! The early wakeup was more than worth it to see the sunrise over the water while kayaking. It was something I've never done but I'll for sure be doing again. Jeff was our guide on the water, another super passionate employee that you could tell just loved his job. He knew everything about the water, what lived in it, what grows in it, I mean everything. He took us around the May River which is actually a salt water river and he said technically not even a "river". We saw dolphins, oysters and learned all about the tide and how it changes.
Next up on the agenda was the spa, now they were speaking my language. We met with representatives from Tata Harper, one of the skincare lines they carry at the spa. It was great learning about a new skincare line and what all they are doing to make sure it is actually 100% clean beauty. The Tata Harper representatives also helped us make our own Hydrating Floral Mist complete with the essential oils we chose. I got to experience a Tata Harper facial after and it was truly heavenly. The esthetician was great in explaining what the products were and their benefits for the skin. The spa was gorgeous, no surprise there because everything at Montage Palmetto Bluff was stunning. I loved everything about it, down to the seersucker robes which I brought home with me, ha!
After we left the spa we headed to the dock where we met, Gio, our boat captain for the day! We loaded up with lunch and headed off on a boat tour. We saw more dolphins and this time they came so close to us! It was such a neat experience to see them so up close, it definitely wasn't something I'd ever seen before. We made a couple pit stops on the way to Paige Island, one of which Gio showed us all how to fish with a weighted net. Also, something I've never seen before but I swear that he caught 50 fish in that thing in one throw. He also caught a baby shark which was fascinating and also terrifying at the same time, ha! It was about a 40 minute ride to Paige Island which is a private island where you can go and paddleboard, dock jump or just lay in the hammocks. We got the chance to hang out for a couple hours and relax around the island.
It was truly a magical few days. I am going to have to continue this in a part 2 because I just have way too much to say about this incredible resort. Stay tuned for the restβ¦.
